PHIL BENTON / Founder & Stylist
Our owner and founder. Phil’s impressive brainchild started out in our 1960s Airstreams where he used innovation to change the way of hairdressing to suit a better lifestyle for himself and his clients. After winning prestigious, national awards for himself as Entrepreneur of the Year and our Airstreams winning Best Boutique Salon; Phil set his sights on opening a brick-and-mortar salon where he could encompass all his concepts into a collaborative space and build his brand. His origins started in Sassoon and Toni & Guy and led to barbering in New York and working in many other reputable salons across London. Phil’s versatility and impressive repertoire with hair are down to an extreme eye for attention to detail. As precise in mind, as he is in his haircuts.

SOPHIE BROWN / Creative Director
Working alongside Phil; helping him map out the journey and vision of douce is our Sophie. The name “douce” originates from Sophie’s French heritage meaning “soft, sweet or fresh.” If Phil’s attention to detail was anything to compare to then Sophie’s wouldn’t have a single hair out of place. With her background in interior design, Sophie has worked for many high-end design companies including Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and 1508, continuing to excel in her career outside of douce. Her meticulous planning and excellent execution of the design are reflected in both our airstreams and new concept store, where you will see her artistic paintings on show. Her creative flair really shows through her art and not just her work. It really shows Sophie’s playful attitude and a keen eye for detail.
NICK BENTON / Director + FOH
Nick has more style and substance than most. An exceptional talent in music, Nick has toured across the world in various bands, had an album sell out in Japan and been a regular on BBC Radio One. In his spare time, he is part of a group that reenacts WWII photos and events. He’s appeared on tv and really does look like a blast from the past. He has a keen eye for attention to detail which must run in the Benton family. Nick enjoys the simple things in life that are quality. As Lucy’s husband and Phil’s brother, he has always been around at our events to lend a helping hand. A warm and laid-back presence behind the bar and a good ear for an interesting conversation.
ANTONY CHITTENDEN / Front of house manager
A Jack of all trades is better than a master of one, in this case anyway! Antony boasts many talents including cooking, having a vast knowledge for music and enjoying horticulture. He has recently enrolled on a college course to help persue this new ambition and hopes to set his green fingers on the new store some day soon. Before working for douce he was working as a chef in a local cambridge pub serving up some of the tastiest pub classics. Good hearty meals from a very hearty guy!
BEN WISBEY / Douce Heights Manager
A keen enthusiast for everything outdoors and a true perfectionist, he really is a maverick in every field that he sets his mind to. Boasting a full EASA/CAA pilot’s license and now beginning his training to fly helicopters shows only part of his meticulous mind. You can find Ben either at the climbing gym, hiking out to find more trad-climbing routes that the UK has to offer or tooting his trumpet with a local brass band. Being a family friend to the team, he’s been a great fit for douce even before he was employed.
